Munich Re has collected data on natural disasters for over 40 years. In the last decade alone, the amount of data has multiplied thousands of times – it is now 3000 terabytes in size. But only today with the Cloud there is a computing power, that can analyze that much information comprehensively. The computing power of the cloud also allows new analyses. Therefore, in November 2017, Munich Re invited around 50 young data scientists and data engineers to a Datathon, to get an unbiased view on new approaches.
